About Us
In the fall of 2012, the Girls Choir of Springfield was founded to unite young women of Springfield in song and strengthen ties to the Springfield community. With girls who participate throughout Southwest Missouri, we seek to offer a unique musical opportunity for talented girls to grow musically and individually through rehearsal, friendship, and service.
Currently there are four choirs within the organization: two sections of Songbirds (2nd grade and another choir of 3rd through 4th grades) under the direction of Molly Faulkner, and two sections of the Girls Choir of Springfield (5th and 6th grade and another choir of 7th through 9th grades) under the direction of Alicia Lyons. These choirs are open to any girl in grades 2-9 by audition. The choirs have performed for the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention, at the St. Louis Cardinals, with the Springfield Symphony, Springfield Regional Opera, and at numerous other local engagements in addition to their annual concert series. In addition to employing some of the finest conductors and accompanists in the region, GCS provides internship opportunities for music education students.
